How to Upload Article Content
Adding the Article
- In ARC, go to the Editorial tab on the left-hand side.
- Click on the Issues tab at the top of the screen.
- You will see the Content Timeline on the left-hand side and the number of Available Pages (circled in black at the top of the timeline).
- To enter the article content, click the green Add button; the Add Article pop-up will appear.
- Select the type of article:
- Standard (using available layouts) - the majority of the content
- Custom Content
- National Content
- Evergreen Articles
- Enter a working or placeholder title for the article.
- For Standard articles, choose a layout recipe from the dropdown on the left.
- Having the layout PDF open in another tab can help check word counts and photo orientation.
- Next, select the “Web Category” - you can select more than one.
- Select the number of pages needed.
- If using a custom layout, be aware of page limitations based on your magazine's size; this is indicated in Available Pages.
- After completing all fields, click Add. The article will now be visible in the Content Timeline.
Entering Article Content
- Once the article has been added, go back to the Issues tab, locate your article, and click on it to open.
- Now under the Content tab toggle between Assignment and Content as needed.
- Enter the article title, subtitle, and byline information (writer and photographer).
- Paste the article text into the body.
- If pasting from Microsoft Word or Google Docs, remember to unbold the text (ARC defaults to bold).
- Verify the word count at the bottom. If the text exceeds or doesn’t meet the layout’s word count, this section will be highlighted in red and must be adjusted before your editorial deadline.
Uploading Photos
- In the Content tab, click Choose File to upload images.
- IMPORTANT: Only upload a few photos at a time (no more than six) to avoid file corruption due to ARC’s size limitations.
- Enter captions for each photo in the Captions section. Remember, captions are for publication, not designer notes.
- If you’re using provided images instead of original photos, ensure you check resolution requirements in advance. ARC will alert you if an image is low-resolution.
Finalizing and Saving Content
- Use the Notes section to add comments for the designer. These notes will not be printed.
- If using custom content for the article you can note under the production notes box what font style you would like the designer to use.
- Font styles:
- Alternate Gothic
- IvyPresto
- Proxima Nova
- Acumin Pro
- Gimlet Display
- Rhythm Two
- Smoosh 1
- Font styles:
- Click Save to store your content (this allows you to make changes up until the editorial deadline as needed).
- When all edits are complete, select Ready for Production to lock the content.
