⅔ Page Ad Guidelines

2/3 page ads are a distinctive size, and their placement requires careful consideration to ensure the magazine's flow is maintained.

Here are the primary guidelines:

  • These ads are typically placed alongside anchor content or within articles.
  • If suitable anchor content or single-page article endings are unavailable, the ad may:
    • Be inserted within an article.
    • Be paired with a house ad to balance the layout.

House Ads and Space Balancing

House ads are used to address uneven space or imbalanced ad layouts.

Specific house ad placements include:

  • 1/4 Page: Always paired with a single 1/4 page ad if no other ads are available.
  • 1/3 Page: May be placed alongside two other 1/3 page ads or next to a 2/3 page ad if space requires it.
  • 1/2 Page: Used if no other ads fit and articles cannot be expanded.

Challenges with General Placement

  • Placing a 2/3 page ad outside specific sections like Business Monthly or Events increases the likelihood of pairing it with a house ad.
  • Articles may need to be adjusted or shortened to accommodate these ads.

Placement in Specific Sections

Business Monthly:

  • Two entries can fit alongside a 2/3 page ad, or one entry if the ad is on the opening page.
  • A full Business Monthly page can pair with two 2/3 page ads.

Events Section:

  • Up to three events can fit next to a 2/3 page ad, depending on the word count of the event entries.

To avoid having articles broken up with 2/3 page ads

If there are 2/3 page ads in the ads list that are not wanted in editorial articles, we suggest:

  • Leave a minimum of 1 page of content open (available pages) so that the design team has room to place the ad with a filler ad. It may help to visualize a 2/3 page ad as taking up a full page of space.
  • Place a production note in any articles you don’t want to be broken up with 2/3 page ads so that it doesn't interfere with the article.
    • Note that if you request an article not to be broken by ads, there might be some give-and-take with other articles to ensure all ads fit within the allotted pages.
  • Place a production note in any national or evergreen content, including that in the case of 2/3 page ad space needed, these corporate articles can be reduced to make room for the ad and the subsequent filler ad.
