Guide to Selecting a Layout
Selecting a layout during the early planning stages of your monthly content is crucial for aligning article length and photos with the layout’s requirements.
Steps to Select a Layout in ARC
- Refer to the Layout PDFs:
- Use these resources to preview layout details, including photo requirements and word count limitations.
- Navigate to the Editorial Timeline:
- Under the Editorial tab, click on the Issues tab.
- Scroll down to the Editorial Timeline.
- Add a New Article:
- Click the green “Add” button next to the available pages section.
- A pop-up window will open.
- Select "Use Recipe":
- Ensure “Use Recipe” is selected at the top of the pop-up. If it isn’t, choose that option.
- Enter Article Details:
- Working Title: Enter a placeholder title for the article.
- Recipe (Layout):
- Use the dropdown to select the desired layout.
- If unsure, refer to the layout PDF beforehand to choose the layout that best fits your needs.
- Preview layouts by clicking their names; the first page(s) will display details, including photo and word count requirements.
- Note: Word count varies based on the selected page count.
- Web Category and Page Count: Fill in the appropriate options in these drop-downs.
- Add the Article:
- Once all fields are complete, click “Add.”
- The article will now appear in the Editorial Timeline.
Tip: The background color of a layout can only be changed if it is a color other than white. You can request to change it in the production notes section of the content tab. Based on the photography, the team will choose an appropriate tone of the requested color.
